Infrared saunas aren't just a wellness trend. After years of using one with clients and on myself, here's what actually happens to your body and why it works.

Real self-care isn't selfish. It's the foundation that makes everything else in your life possible.

To be successful at weight loss and the prevention of weight gain, it is vital that you find ways to manage stress. Otherwise, you leave yourself open to some of the negative effects of stress. In my case, long-term stress led to a lowered immune system, which in turn made me susceptible to everything, including chronic fatigue syndrome.

If this sounds familiar, you might be dealing with adrenal fatigue. This stress-related condition happens when your adrenal glands, hypothalamus and pituitary gland (the HPA axis) aren't functioning at their best.
Your adrenal glands control how your body responds to stress. They release hormones like cortisol, DHEA and adrenaline to regulate your heart rate, immune system, and energy levels.
When these glands are overstimulated for months or years, they start to weaken. Long-term job stress, relationship problems, or chronic illness are common culprits. Eventually, your adrenals become so depleted they can't respond when you need them most.
Adrenal fatigue feels different from regular tiredness. You'll struggle to get out of bed each morning, even after 8+ hours of sleep. But here's the weird part: many people get a second wind late at night, which messes with their cortisol cycle even more.
Other symptoms include:
I've seen countless clients turn this around by focusing on stress reduction and targeted nutrition. Food is your first line of defence, and it doesn't require expensive supplements or lengthy doctor visits.
Cut the sugar. Sugar spikes mess with your cortisol levels, putting more pressure on already tired adrenals.
Embrace healthy fats. Think avocado, coconut oil, activated nuts and seeds, grass-fed butter, and organic goat's cheese.
Don't skip breakfast. After 12 hours of fasting overnight, your body needs quality fuel. Combine protein with a small amount of good carbs. A vegetable omelette or poached eggs with berries works perfectly.
Ditch the coffee. I know, I know. But caffeine stimulates your adrenals, which is the opposite of what we want. Try herbal teas, turmeric lattes, or matcha instead.
Stick to whole foods. Choose organic where possible, especially for the dirty dozen list. Think of food as medicine.
Add superfoods. Seaweed, kombucha, and bone broth are particularly healing.
Watch for food intolerances. These create inflammation and prevent your body from absorbing nutrients properly. If you're dealing with digestive issues, this could be a major piece of the puzzle.
If you recognise these symptoms in yourself, it's worth having your condition assessed by an experienced practitioner. In my clinic, I regularly work with women dealing with stress-related conditions like this. Sometimes the right guidance can make all the difference in how quickly you bounce back.
The good news? With the right approach, your energy can return. It takes time and consistency, but I've watched so many clients reclaim their vitality once they give their adrenals the support they need.
